Downhill
skiing, snowboard, classic skiing, ski-touring – you can try all these sports
in the

Mountains.
The leading
localities are Karpacz and Szklarska Poręba and their two sports centres: Śnieżka 1602 and SkiArena Szrenica, offering more than
40 km of downhill skiing trails
for amateur and advanced skiers.
In these
two towns, almost

of cross-country trails with FIS certification are prepared in winter. The true
"
Mecca" of classic skiing is the
sports centre in Szklarska Poręba, Jakuszyce, where on the first weekend in March
one of the largest skiing events in
Europe
takes place (Bieg Piastów, classified in Eurolopped). The sports centre in
Jakuszyce offers more than
250
km of cross-country trails, regarded as the best and the
most beautiful in
Europe. Fans of dog sleds have
also taken a liking to Jakuszyce and established their winter training camp
near Polana Jakuszycka.

skiing and snowboarding instructors and great many sports equipment agencies
offer their services.
CLASSIC SKIING
Szklarska Poręba-Jakuszyce and the
Izerskie
Mountains are the "
Mecca" of classic skiing of
Central
Europe. There are more than
250 km of cross-country trails, some of them
with the highest FIS certification. In Polana Jakuszycka on the first weekend in
March, Bieg Piastów takes place – one of the most important mass long-distance ski
runs in
Europe.
Trails for
classic skiing can also be found in Karpacz Górny. Junior competitions in Norwegian
combined are also organised there. Cross-country trails are prepared in the
area of Kowary in the

SKI-TOURING AND SKI-ALPINISM
The
Karkonosze
Mountains are the perfect
place for practicing ski-touring.
All the tourist trails are well-prepared for this purpose.
The land relief makes cross-country skiing trips
possible, as well as many downhill runs.
More experienced skiers can try ski-alpinism.
One should always remember, however, to stay safe.
HIKING TOURISM
The
Karkonosze
Mountains,
the
Izerskie
Mountains, and Rudawy Janowickie are
perfect for excursions in any season of the year.
Hundreds of kilometres of trails with many
lookouts are designed both for experienced tourists as well as beginners and
walkers. However, you should always check the current conditions on the trail
before going out to the mountains. Mountain rescuers are always ready to help.
DOG SLEDS
The
Izerskie
Mountains are a perfect place to
practice this sport discipline. This territory is often referred to as Polish
Alaska, and this is why near Polana Jakuszycka a centre of dog sleding was
established. From December to March, almost every weekend, one can see many
competitors training with their dogs there.
A few times a season, dog sleding competitions are organised, including
world championships.
